USDT TRC20 transfer fee: what you actually pay
A USDT transfer on TRON has no fixed fee. It uses energy and bandwidth. With no energy of your own, the energy part alone burns about 6.4 TRX for a transfer to an address that already holds USDT, or about 13 TRX to an address with no USDT; bandwidth is extra. Renting enough energy for the first case costs 2 TRX.

The numbers (as of October 2026)
| Receiving address | Energy needed (approx.) | If you burn TRX for it | Rent it from TRXMAN |
|---|---|---|---|
| Already holds USDT | 64,000 | about 6.4 TRX | 2 TRX (1 unit, 65,000 energy) |
| Holds no USDT | 130,000 | about 13 TRX | 4 TRX (2 units) |
Burning costs 100 sun (0.0001 TRX) per unit of energy, so 64,000 × 0.0001 ≈ 6.4 TRX. Bandwidth is separate: each address gets up to 600 free bandwidth over a rolling 24-hour period, and if neither that nor staked bandwidth covers the transfer, the whole bandwidth cost is burned at 1,000 sun (0.001 TRX) per unit. Both rates are network parameters that can change, and the energy figures vary with the USDT contract's energy_factor, so trust your wallet's estimate and the receipt.
Why the receiver matters
A USDT transfer runs the USDT contract. When the receiving address holds zero USDT at that moment (even if it held some before), the contract has to create a new balance entry, which costs extra energy. TRON's docs put the whole transfer at about 130,000 energy instead of about 64,000. So check the receiver before you decide how much energy to rent.
How to pay less
- Check whether the receiving address holds USDT right now.
- Rent 1 unit of energy if it does, 2 units if it doesn't.
- Pay the rent from the same self-custody wallet you will send USDT from.
- Once the energy shows up in that wallet, send the USDT. The energy must be used within 1 hour; ask support when the hour starts.

FAQ
Does sending more USDT cost more?
No. TRON's official examples split energy use by whether the receiving address already holds USDT, not by the amount you send. Check your wallet's estimate before you send.
I rented energy. Why was TRX still deducted?
Energy only covers the contract part. If neither your staked bandwidth nor your free bandwidth can cover the whole transfer on its own, the full bandwidth cost is paid by burning TRX. It also happens if you rented too little energy, for example one unit when the receiver has no USDT.
Is the exchange withdrawal fee the same thing?
No. When an exchange sends USDT for you, it charges its own withdrawal fee and pays the network cost itself. Renting energy for your own wallet does not change that fee.
Can I send USDT with no TRX at all?
Only if energy and bandwidth fully cover the transfer. If anything is short and there is no TRX to burn, the transfer fails. Keep a little TRX in the wallet.
